MAUD PAQUIS QUARTET

Maud Paquis is a solar energy that finds her inspiration on rainy days. Her universe, oscillating at the borders of jazz, pop, and French chanson, transports us into a dreamlike world, filled with hope and melancholy. The 23-year-old artist lives between Lausanne and Bern, where she studies jazz piano at the HKB.

Her singles "Sophia" and "Asphalte" have allowed her to be discovered among others by the weekly listeners of La 1ère, SRF1, and Option Musique. L'Illustré has even named her as one of the "12 Talents to Discover in 2022".

In September 2022, Maud Paquis felt an ever-stronger call to jazz, which led her to rethink her project in depth. She formed the Maud Paquis Quartet, joined by Samuel Goupil on drums, Lennart Schandl on electric bass and Maurice Ruf on guitar. All four met while studying jazz at the EJMA in Lausanne and the HKB in Bern.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Camille Bertault for her songwriting, Cecile Mc Laurin Salvant for her mastery of the voice and Antonio Carlos Jobim for his talent as a composer, the Maud Paquis Quartet draws on a wide range of influences. The group is now firmly rooted in the jazz tradition, with a fresh approach that explores the many nuances of this musical genre. Their style is instantly recognisable: original compositions with jazz rhythms and harmonies set to lyrics in the language of Molière.

The band are currently in the middle of recording their first album, an ambitious project that testifies to their commitment. Scheduled for release in spring 2024, the album is sure to delight music lovers everywhere.
